Question 5

Did you find the Lesson Template helpful when using a lesson from the kit? Why or Why not?

  1. I didn’t use an entire lesson from the kit as I don’t teach a class. If the template for the discussion lesson were used, students would get to see things from multiple perspectives and gain greater understanding.

  2. Yes, I think lesson templates are very useful. First of all, there is a variety of objectives to meet the needs of gifted students. The questions (open ended or closed) in the motivation section, are carefully selected to stimulate students' interest, integrate and practice section is easy to follow by students and closure help GT students to make connections with other areas.

  3. I did find the lesson template very helpful. I need structured instructions for almost every lesson I do, so I appreciate the guidelines. This way we do not have to spend time coming up with background questions and ideas. I also really like the Closure section of the template. It helps the students to wrap up the projects in a meaningful way. Again, it also saves the teacher's time.

  4. Yes, the lesson template helped me stay on track. I like the motivation portion of the lesson and the different ways to integrate the lesson and make it relevant for the students. When closing my lesson, I found that my students enjoyed discussing the postive and negative features of independent study. I also felt that hearing their feelings on the independent study was valuable to use when planning another activity like this. Great way to wrap up the lesson!

Yes, I think the Lesson Templates are a great resource and works as a roadmap to guide instruction. In my opinion, they are a great resource and have the perfect balance of being partially structured and still giving a lot of room for extending, modifying, and even simplifying the general plan according to the needs of the students, and the type of lesson they are applied for. They gave me a clear path to follow, with concrete key points such as the objective itself, the motivation component, the integration part and practice according to the interest of the students, as well as a good reminder/ guide for closure . I think they have the perfect balance between being partially structured but still very open to give room for extending or modifying them considering the interests and needs of the involved students.
